Official NYE

This is my last blog post of 2010, so to the close the year I would like to thank those who take the time to read my blog and inspire me to keep it going. Thank you all and have an amazing 2011.

29 December 2010

Pre-NYE

It's been a long time since I've updated and I just feel like I can't maintain this blog. It's not going to die or anything of that nature, there will just be less blog posts and it will morph into a lifestyle blog :).

FASHION UPDATE. I love Alexa Chung and the British, of course.

REAL LIFE. Since the end of August (when I last got a texturizer) I've decided to go natural. I've gotten my hair done a few times since then for reasons of my own, but other than that I've been wearing a lot of braid outs, slicked back ponys, and braided hair styles. To help me along the way I have been following the Moptop Maven's blog at moptopmaven.blogspot.com. She has extremely helpful advice, ranging from natural hair care, transititoning hair care, and even the best ways to straighten ethnic hair. So to bring in the new year I will not be getting my hair done until February, and even then I will only be going for a trim. The Moptop Maven's 2011 challenge is to practice an Ayurvedic hair regimen, so I'm going to participate. Although, I will still be using mainstream products such as Mizani and Jane Carter.

Corinne Bailey Rae wearing a twist out

In the spirit of New Years I will post my resolutions:
1) lose weight
2) maintain natural hair
3) good grades
4) be fearless
5) have fun!
What are yours?

Loud

TRUE LIFE. Today, I was talking to my ex-teammates and I got pretty bummed about not playing soccer anymore. Soccer and dance are both equally important to me and being told to choose, the word doesn't begin to describe the decision. Ultimately, I've chosen dance by default since I take the class. But soccer is my baby! I love that it's a competitive and contact sport. My shinguards and cleats will be put to rest for awhile, but definitely not forever.

Favorite Soccer Team

I've come to realize that I need to keep myself up to date on other things besides fashion. So I'm going to start paying attention to sports and politics, not that I will be blogging about them, but at least stay update to with pop culture. Whether we realize it or not everything effects the fashion industry. I think following other things besides fashion will develop my aesthetic and make me the person I want to be.

GOSSIP GIRL. I just watched yesterday's episode of Gossip Girl and it was insane. It always keeps me in suspense and I love that it evokes emotion, I feel for those people fictional even though they are fictional. I don't know how to take some of the events that happened, such as Serena forgiving Juliet so easily? But anyway, it reminded me of how people from my school used to create fake Gossip Girl pages, which were actually really mean. They were like public burn books. High school drama...saweettt.

The Light

TRUE LIFE. Its been three days since I met the fourteen year old fashion prodigy, Tavi Gevinson. When I saw her my mouth dropped to the ground, literally. I knew she was best friends with my friend Caroline, who is one of the leads in my schools play, but I did not expect to see her. I ran around backstage for about 15 minutes whispering to people that this famous fashion blogger was there. No one knew who I was referring to, which I found shocking. My friend Meg told me to go talk to her, but I was terrified because I did not want to freak her out. Finally, I did. I couldn't have been happier. I asked if she minded if I took a picture just to be even creepier...well actually just for memoribilia purposes.
She posed awkwardly, gotta love her!
My latest edition to my handful of idols is Cree Summer. I think she is absolutely beautiful and talented, although an underrated actress. I admire that she embraces her heritage by living a Native American lifestyle.
Cree as Frankie from A Different World
I'm envious of her hair!

Don't Be a Turkey

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope that everyone ate well and will be ready for the Black friday sales tomorrow. Even though I'm broke I will probably go out to see what deals there are. I already have my Christmas list, although Christmas is not about gifts, here's a sneak peek.

Golden Eye? Silver Lining?

I was watching an episode of House of Glam tonight and one of the stylist said something that caught my attention. "Oh, you're one of those people that doesn't think you can mix gold and silver?" or some variation of that. It got me thinking, I usually don't mix my jewelry. I think the majority of the time I feel like it can come off as flashy and maybe even a little tacky. Lately, I've had this urge to wear silver and gold rings at the same time, on different hands of course. I'm not leaning towards one side or the other, because its all based on opinion. I'm going to try wearing the two together though, just to see if it suits my liking. I'm anticipating comments, I'd really like to know how people feel about this topic.

Penitentiary Philosophy

MENSWEAR. Lanvin has got you covered with their new collection for H&M, making their iconic style currently affordable. This collection has about 36 pieces, ranging from eyewear to footwear. The illustrious patterns and dynamic color schemes keep this collection from falling into normalcy. (They also have an H&M women's collection)

Lanvin's H&M Ad Campaigns

In other news, Kate Moss will no longer be creating collections for her Topshop line. Although, she will still be commisioned to design a few pieces for Topshop. Last night, she debuted her final collection in London, which included a few past best-sellers and 70's themed frocks, jackets, etc.

Open Call!

Right now I'm sitting in the hall waiting for my friend Adjua. Then I will be on my way to the AA open call. I'm freaking out. As far as wardrobe goes, I decided to wear the tie-dye leggings, moccasin boots, a creme slouchy silk shirt and pink circle scarf (both from Akira), skinny leather belt and leather jacket (both from UO). I think I'm the most nervous for the "tell me about yourself" question, how do I even go about answering that? I guess I should talk about stuff related to the store and what assets I would bring to the table. I just don't know what adjectives would be appropriate to use when describing myself (note: not the cliche, overused ones like unique and creative). If you see this please respond :) thanks.

She Works Hard For the Money

HALLOWEEN UPDATE. Spice Girls idea is dead. And I have yet to find a '90s Bulls jersey and silver spandex shorts...

Fellow Chicagoans, as I'm sure most of you are aware a new American Apparel (AA) will be opening at 39 S. State. Tomorrow they are hosting an open call at this location, I believe. So I just typed up a resume, which was hard considering I've never had an actual job before. I'm thinking about wearing black and white tie-dye AA leggings, moccasin boots, and for the top...I am undecided. I'm extremely nervous and in desperate need of a job, hopefully all goes well.

Let's Go Out Tonite

Halloween is this weekend and even though it happens to fall on a Sunday, I will be getting dressed up regardless. I want to be the Spice Girls with my friends (I would be Sporty Spice). No matter what I am, I plan to wear silver metallic spandex shorts (HOTTT PANTSSS), '90s Bulls jersey, which I'll have to go thrifting for, maybe knee high socks, and I'm unsure of what shoes. I thought it would be really cute if all of us had a bow or some type of head piece that said which "spice" we were, but at this point I might just end up being a Luv-a-Bulls, but singular (for those who don't know, its a Bulls dancer).

FASHION UPDATE. Rag & Bone is opening a retail store in Tokyo, Japan. Even though they recently opened their Nolita boutique a few months ago, creators Marcus Wainwright and David Neville are ready to expand their urban empire.

Halle Berry is reported as having a new friend, or friend with benefits I should say. The lucky guy is Olivier Martinez, who was seen courting Berry at L.A's Carousel of Hope Benefit Ball.

A Woeful Tale

Next week, I'm supposed to be going to the Drake concert with my friend Simone. So we went to Wicker Park, a pretty hipster area of Chicago, looking in different resale and vintage stores for something to wear. In Buffalo Exchange I found this A.P.C creme button down. I thought it was a steal, seeing as it was only $24.50! I went to the dressing room to try it on, only to be disappointed. It was too small around my boobs, my itty-bitty, teensie-weensie boobs.  I've been looking a for an A.P.C shirt for awhile, and since I can't afford full price, resale is the way to go. Back on the hunt....

Below I have posted a few outfits that I like by A.P.C.

Hey, there's Keira Knightley!

At last...October 6th, 2010- I have finally received my laptop, which I am blogging from right now and did my last post about Vashtie Kola on. I am ecstatic, words cannot express how I feel right now.

Hall of Fame

The amazing Vashtie Kola; artist, director, and designer, is the first female to design a pair of Jordan's. Kola's visionary style led her to create the limited edition lavendar and dark purple Air Jordan 2 Retro. They were released October 2nd, so I'm about four days late, but regardless these shoes are the perfect of mix femininity with urban/street culture. If you'd like to know more about the shoe or Kola, I advised you to read her blog: www.vashtie.com

Real World: Chicago

Homecoming sucked as usual, but it was better than the previous years. So I applaud Student Council for that. My favorite part about homceoming is the preparation. From the time I woke until the dance I was prepping. Between nair-ing, hair and nail appointments, I was texting the world trying to figure out my evening plans. Unfortunately I didn't take pictures, but hopefully someone did so I can post them as soon as possible.

Today, I was in the mood to continue working on my Tisch Summer Program application. It seriously scares me how much I want to act. I don't want to be an actress for fame or money, or any other material thing; just for me. The way I feel when I watch movies is the way I want to make someone else feel; the way I look, learn, and apply underlying movie messages and themes to my personal life (the cause of my optimistic views) has helped me to grow as a person. This all might sound corny, but I genuinely feel passionately about the art of acting. I admire those actors and actresses that have sheer talent and have also managed to keep the majority of their personal life under wraps. I really hope I get into the program!

Come November, once soccer season is over, I will be getting my second hole on my right ear!

Smoke Without Fire

Edie Sedgwick

Through out history, we've seen plenty of "it-girls" and icons smoke carelessly and casually.
And today, both girls and women do it who, I assume, want to be seen as "beautiful".
I think cigarrettes and beauty go hand in hand because of the way smoking is shown in the media.
In cigarrette ads, people are shown having a wonderful time at parties.
Or there are pictures of celebrities holding cigs or modeling them.
Even television shows have their characters smoking.
The question I pose to my readers tonight is, what is beautiful about smoking?
I'm not putting it down by any means, I'm just interested in why people, women in particular, find it appealing.

Show Me Your Teeth

These ladies are my "it-girls" of the moment: Irina Shayk (Russian model), Veronica Webb (American model, actress, TV personality), and Coco Rocha (Canadian model). These models, although far from newcomers, have been recently stealing the fashion scene.

After winning a beauty pageant in 2004, Shayk started modeling in the US and Europe in 2005 and has had a successful career since. Webb has been in the spotlight for some time now; she's been on American Vogue's best dressed list three times. If you watched the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards white carpet, then you probably recognize Rocha, who was the hostess of the pre-show.

It's A Small World

It's been a long time and I don't have much to say considering I've removed myself from the "fashion loop" to focus solely on my studies...yeahhh?

But I was surfing the internet, as I usually do when I'm bored, and found out that Amanda and Brooklyn Sudano are the lovely daughters of Donna Summer! They are both insanely beautiful. For those of you who don't know who these ladies are, Amanda and Brooklyn are both models and actresses. You might have seen these ladies on the fashion scene lately, as well. For all you style.com addicts (like yours truly), here is a picture of the sisters together at a party both dressed in Louis Vuitton.

"I don't eat things with a FACE!"

September 1st I become a vegan, not indefinitely (I go through phases). For example my new years resolution was to be a vegetarian for at least 6 months, I made it exactly to 6 months and ate a burger the next day.

I'M VERY EXCITED ABOUT THIS SO YOU SHOULD BE TOO, I have a menswear update for the first time ever! It's all about A.P.C. I'm sure all of the fashion savvy guys own a few pairs of jeans and t-shirts by this brand, but there comes a time when neither of these are suitable. A.P.C.'s new line of suits, which come in the traditional suit colors (black, navy, and grey), are being sold with unfinished hems so they can be tailored to size. Even though these suit separates are rather pricey for your average Joe, it's always worth investing in a timeless and well made wardrobe staple.

Truth Fears No Question

Marc Jacobs :)
Hello little monsters, to those of you who are googoo for Gaga, I am sad to say my parents failed to order my laptop. Just lovely. So I will probably continue to write whenever I really get the chance -__-  Although they did get me a Marc Jacobs laptop case. If you haven't figured it out by now, I'm obsessed with Marc Jacobs. Like literally obsessed, he's my favorite designer and I even find him attractive; in my eyes he can do no wrong.

About my birthday being a...disaster, well sort of. Let's start with my outfit: I was unable to find a reasonably priced, semi-dressy shirt to match my skirt, so I bought a dress and open toed clogs. Dinner reservations were made for 7:00 and I told everyone to PLEASE be prompt because we wouldn't be able to be seated without the entire party, we were seated at around 7:30. My friends wanted to do something after so they suggested that we go to the beach at 10 o'clock at night. A few of my guy friends joined us, it was pretty boring so I just had my mom drop everyone off at home. OH and I forgot to mention it was supposed to be a sleepover, but no one informed me that they wouldn't be sleeping over. I guess it was at a pretty inconvenient time, being that it was Tuesday night and all, but still a little notice would have been nice. Two of my friends stayed over which made me feel a little better, not that I needed to be comforted or anything...it was just company. So yeah, that was pretty much my "sweet" sixteen hahaha.

This morning when I woke I was itching to look up tattoo ideas. I started with a feather, then the Egyptian ankh symbol, and ended with phrases. Here are a few phrases that I thought were meaningful or relevant to my life at the moment:
~A sound mind in a sound body
~What nourishes me also destroys me (Angelina Jolie has this tattoed on her stomach in Latin)
~Life comes with no gurantees
~Truth fears no questions (my personal faveeeeee!!!)
~La vie boheme (one of my favorite songs from the musical, Rent which means the bohemian life)

Sweet Sixteen, Rebel Queen

Hey today is MY BIRTHDAY and as I'm sure you can guess from the title it's my sixteenth!!!! Tonight I will be taking my closest friends out to dinner at Carnivale and then sleepover at my house. I have Marc Jacobs goodie bags :) and Sugar Bliss cupcakes so I'm hoping tonight is one to remember. Unfortunately my "birthday outfit" isn't complete. But thus far I have Marc Jacobs earrings and a Rachel Roy skirt (I'll post pics); no shoes + no shirt = no service. Oh and the cherry on top of my day is registration at school, fffuuuunnnn...not. At least I will finally know my actual schedule. And MOST IMPORTANTLY my laptop should be coming in the mail soon so I will be blogging and keeping you updated all the time, or as much as possible.

Frankie Says Relax

Poll: Is it okay to show your bra in public, when wearing a lace top or a shirt period? Yes or No

Model Erin Wasson, commonly known for her True Religion ads, has a new jewelry line called Luv Low. When asked who would she like to see in her jewelry she instantly answered Louise Bourgeois (artist and sculptor). On the style.com blog it said that at the launch of Maybelline's New York 2010 calendar 'Wasson worked the room in a sprayed-on red dress, concealing, perhaps, a few gems underneath: One of the key pieces in her new line is a body chain. What’s the point of jewelry hidden from the public eye? “I consider it an armor, to protect oneself from all crazy stuff out there,” Wasson said. “And also, like lingerie, it’s your own naughty little secret, that only you and maybe a special friend need to know of. It’s outrageously sexy.”' This January, Luv Low will be availabe at http://www.my-wardrobe.com/.

Has anyone been to the Adidas store lately? Well I went there not too long ago and discovered this adorable swimsuit by Stella McCartney. It was obviously the cutest thing in the whole store and I was surprised that McCartney had a collaboration with an athletic store. Way to stay on your toes and keep us guessing! Her collection can be viewed on the Adidas website; http://www.adidas.com/.

Theory?

I just came back from my medicine class at the University of Michigan and we were discussing the trolley problem, which is based on morality. So I am posing the question to you...If given the option to pull a lever that changes the direction of a trolley and kills one person rather than five, what would you do? And if given the option to push a person in front of a trolley, killing that person but saving five others, would you?

Below is Missoni's Fall/Winter Campaign Ad...it's kind of trippy.

Check it Out

My friend Adjua tweeted a link at me about the top nine black female bloggers. So I checked it out and followed all the ones that also use blogger. They are all amazing I must say, their personal style being pretty distinct, as well as, their writing style. I look forward to reading more from these ladies; with hopes of learning more about the fashion industry and blogging. If you would like to check these sites out I have posted the links below. THANKS ADJUA!!!!!

Recently, I've had this obsession with menswear. Why? I have absolutely no clue. But I was thinking shouldn't I know what I would want my boyfriend (if I had one) to wear, or at least what's considered 'en vogue' these days. So style.com, here I am to absorb all your menswear FYI's and DYI's.

Ciao.

Life's Far From a Beach...

I seriously feel like I'm not fulfilling any of my summer goals i.e. lose weight! HOW HARD CAN IT BE!!! It seems like everyone is able to shed their extra pounds, excluding yours truly. So if you have lost ANY weight and would share your weight loss secrets with me, I'd be so grateful!

Today I bought this really cute, green, stone ring from a store called Middle Earth in Ann Arbor, Michigan (where I will be for these next two weeks). I fell in love with it yesterday but was unsure if I should buy the ring or enjoy the experience of John Mayer's concert. My mom settled that one haha, she said I could go to the John Mayer concert so I splurged on the ring. Happy ending, I'll say.

While I was updating myself on the world's fashion, I was reading this blog about how classic couture houses are turning towards ready-to-wear. I guess the designers are beginning to see how unpractical they really are. In my opinion, I must say that looking at a beautiful, well-made, couture gown is like looking at a Picasso painting. I love the mystery of trying to figure out what image the designer was trying to portray and what I (as a consumer) am suppose to take away from the garment. Couture is another dying art form. However, I think it will thrive once more when the economy takes a positive turn and people are willing to pay extra $$$ to own them.

Counting Sheep

It's 2.20 AM, and I'm still up. I've honestly been trying to fall asleep for about three hours, but when that didn't work I decided to write. I made myself a muffin since I figured I was a little hungry. While scrolling through recent style.com party pictures this girl caught my eye, whom I assumed to be a model. I was correct, this Puerto Rican beauty's name is Joan Smalls. She is absolutely gorgeous and I think she's relatively new on the scene. At a quick glance (in my opinion) she can be easily confused with model Chanel Iman. Smalls is a rising star, considering I saw her in multiple party albums. I've added her to my list of people to watch.

Would anyone care to explain to me the need for so many Jersey shows? There's Jerseylicious (garbage), Jersey Couture (garbage), Jersey Shore (stupidity), The Real Housewives of New Jersery (good), Cake Boss (okay), you get the point. It seems like Jersey has knocked New York and Los Angeles out of the hot spots...

"The Hills", goodbye Kristin and Lauren, goodbye plastic Heidi and psycho Spencer, goodbye to 4 years of my life watching reality TV. You will all be missed, but of course we'll see you around. It's Hollywood babyyy.

Zoe's Obsessed

So I've been back for a couple days now and its been killing me how late I've been on updating AHHH.

But...today and yesterday one of my idols, Zoe Kravitz, tweeted about this website called itsasickness.tv. And I was like woahhh what is this, it sounds pretty sketchy. I checked it out, and there's this adorable video of her travelling the city in a dragon costume! Why a dragon costume you might ask; well she was born in the year of the dragon (Chinese horoscope). According to itsasickness.tv, a person born in the year of the dragon "is a non-conformist, beautiful, and flamboyant". All of these aspects pertaining to Zoe. I also noticed her nose ring, which I call the "bull" ring because I don't know what it's really called. Not to be a total stalker and follower, but everything she does I want to do. I know, it's mildly creepy. If you're interested in watching this petite rocker prance around town in a green dragon suit, visit the website ASAP.

The Hole in NY

Haayyyy I found time to write, but I'm going to keep it short and sweet! The Hole, is a new gallery opening in New York by Kathy Grayson and Meghan Coleman. They will be opening tomorrow with a multimedia group show entitled "Not Quite Open for Business". As we know fashion is very much so influenced by modern art and history. So should we expect to see graffiti inspired clothing in the near future? I think it is safe to say we will, but in a more stylistic way than previously presented.

Away Game

I'm away at theatre camp (yes I am an actress) at Notre Dame, so I won't be updating for these next two weeks. But I hope everyone is having an awesome summer and when I return hopefully I'll have an overwhelming amount of stuff to talk about...I doubt it.

12 June 2010

Summertime Chi!!!!

Fellow Chicagoans, if you are a fan of Elevator Fight (Zoe Kravitz's band), The Donnas, or Click Clack Boom, they will be performing tomorrow at the Double Door Nightclub. I have not heard much of Elevator Fight's music, but The Donnas are a pretty kickass band and the one song I've heard of Click Clack Boom was awesome and relatable. So if you want a rockin' sunday night, gooo! Also on Monday, The Cool Kids will be holding a free concert at Millenium Park. I love their music and will definitely be in attendence. A free concert in Chicago is rare, so take advantage of the oppurtunity.

On a fashion note, Doc Marten has collaborated with Sanrio to create Hello Kitty combat boots. A few months ago (maybe more) Doc Marten also came out with heels. Yes combat heels, statement heels for sure. The brand has obviously been trying to step up their game by taking a quirky, even girly turn with their latest additions. Personally, I am a huge fan of the orginal black combat boot. They scream rebellion and are on the lower end of rocker chic (less chic, more rocker). Strangely, my mom owns the knock off version and wears them as snow boots HAHA. Gotta love her. But here are some pics of the rough "vixen-ish" heels and playful printed boots. The bow is so cute!

LemLem Collection

Baby, will you be my corona and lime?

I've been M.I.A lately, since my finals were this week and they are always such a downer. But I have some minor updates. Neons are in, what's new right? The summer season calls for loud and outrageous, whether it be through accesories or clothes. Make a statement with neon animal or tribal prints. Also by adding metallic pieces to a casual outfit, you can raise your ensemble's intensity. You know what they say all that glitters is gold.

photo cred: runwaydaily.com

Model, Liya Kebede's, LemLem Collection is making a postive impact on the world and blossoming in the fashion industry. In the video above titled LemLem Collection (found on style.com) Kebede talks about how returning to her hometown in Ethiopia has influenced her as a designer. She expresses that she hopes other companies will follow in her footsteps by producing in Africa and employing its natives.

Spazzz

Today, I met Pharrell Williams at Leaders on Wells & Huron (located in Chicago's downtown area), the Ice Cream designer in the flesh. This is the same store I've have been putting down, or at least putting people who wear it down . To me everyone who wears the Leaders brand or shops at the store is a follower. Most of the people that shop there are some hardcore posers and are wearing it only because they think they look "cool". I feel bad for the people who actually discovered this brand and wear it because it fits their personal style. The store is pretty nice, they mainly sell mens streetwear but they also have some items for women (I spotted a pair of Palladium boots that I kind of want). But anyway back to Pharrell (mind you I waited for almost two hours), I was practically in tears thinking that there was NO WAY I was going to make it in. Some guy comes out and says that Pharrell's manager said only twenty more people can come in and that's it. So I'm standing by my friend Reese, now my bestfriend, who promised we would get in. I honestly had lost all hope, when this fat dude comes out and just starts picking people to come in. Reese and I were picked! At that moment I started hyperventilating, literally. I had this cropped top I made in my bag that I was planning on giving to my friend that is moving to Texas, when I finally made it to the front of the line I had him sign it. I could barely speak, I felt like a gawking groupie. Soooo my friend is not getting this shirt now, I'll have to make her something else, but who cares I met Pharrell.

Born Free

Today I received this months issue of NYLON and was stunned to find the rapper M.I.A, Maya Arulpragasam, on the cover! She's known for her eccentric style and pretty much not giving a f*ck. So when I flipped to the article about her I was not the slightest bit surprised to see her dressed in Basso & Brooke with Timberland boots (a tribute to the 90's). I do not always agree with her fashion choices, however, I wish I had the courage to be as outrageous as she is. I'm working on it. Even after having a baby, M.I.A has a bangin' bod and the couple of songs I've had the privelege to hear off of her new album are fire.

Topshop now sells makeup. Their new line of products are playful and cheap, two words that are a girls best friend. Competively priced, these items are less expensive than those that you would find at any Sephora. I have not heard much about their quality, but if its coming from Topshop I am sure that it is probably worth every penny.

Are You Here?

Recently, Corinne Bailey Rae's latest cd, The Sea, has been on repeat on my ipod. In a couple of her songs, Are You Here (my personal favorite) and The Sea, you can feel her pain of losing a husband to suicide. Which partially explains why we haven't heard much from her since her self entitled album's debut in 2006. I love the new album; it is pretty funky and shows a totally different, and unexpected side of the british guitarist.

Also the late Alexander McQueen's Fall 2010 collection is amazing. It brings us back to medevial times and is an example of history repeating itself. Some of the outfits are pretty far out for a ready to wear collection, but the one's I've posted below would be stellar choices to wear at a social event. The simplistic gowns embody feminity with their flowy lines and embellished fabric, steering away from the current style of rebellion. R.I.P McQueen, you have served the fashion industry well.

Cherry Bomb

Friday was my school's art fair, my favorite event of the year. A few of the student designers had their pieces on display, in hopes of attracting new customers. Amanda Seagle's (the designer of AS ONE) collection was by far my favorite. I am a huge fan of tie dye, so her pairing of "silky" fabric with tie dye to create a chic rather than casual look received high marks in my book. So naturally I waited to order something from her; I have my eye on a pair of harem trousers, which she wore at our school's fashion show. Next to her table was my friend Rosie's, who was selling mostly jewelry. I had six dollars in my wallet and desperately wanted to purchase something from her. I settled on a five dollar paper necklace. Sounds pretty boring, right? Far from, its color scheme is mesmerizing and the chain details add edge.

On Saturday my mom was cleaning out her closet and stumbled across a Ralph Lauren blazer, which she promptly handed to me. Its nautical beading on the chest pocket and gold buttons are my favorite part. Who knew my mom had taste? The blazer is pretty large for my petite frame, but luckily my mom said she's willing to have it tailored if I'm actually going to wear it.

Also, if you are interested in the fashion industry, you should pick up The Teen Vogue Handbook. Anna Wintour (editor in chief of Vogue) said its "an indispensable resource for anybody who aspires to work as a fashion editor, designer, stylist, photographer, or anywhere, really, in the fashion industry." Check it out!

Blank Canvas

I’ve always been in love with fashion, from the starting sketch to the garments debut. So I decided today was the day to blog about my fashion fetish. I plan on posting pictures…eventually; and suggestions, as far as, magazines, books, websites, etc. are welcomed. But for now, this is just the beginning.

Ciao, Marisa
