Are You Here?

Recently, Corinne Bailey Rae's latest cd, The Sea, has been on repeat on my ipod. In a couple of her songs, Are You Here (my personal favorite) and The Sea, you can feel her pain of losing a husband to suicide. Which partially explains why we haven't heard much from her since her self entitled album's debut in 2006. I love the new album; it is pretty funky and shows a totally different, and unexpected side of the british guitarist.

Also the late Alexander McQueen's Fall 2010 collection is amazing. It brings us back to medevial times and is an example of history repeating itself. Some of the outfits are pretty far out for a ready to wear collection, but the one's I've posted below would be stellar choices to wear at a social event. The simplistic gowns embody feminity with their flowy lines and embellished fabric, steering away from the current style of rebellion. R.I.P McQueen, you have served the fashion industry well.

Cherry Bomb

Friday was my school's art fair, my favorite event of the year. A few of the student designers had their pieces on display, in hopes of attracting new customers. Amanda Seagle's (the designer of AS ONE) collection was by far my favorite. I am a huge fan of tie dye, so her pairing of "silky" fabric with tie dye to create a chic rather than casual look received high marks in my book. So naturally I waited to order something from her; I have my eye on a pair of harem trousers, which she wore at our school's fashion show. Next to her table was my friend Rosie's, who was selling mostly jewelry. I had six dollars in my wallet and desperately wanted to purchase something from her. I settled on a five dollar paper necklace. Sounds pretty boring, right? Far from, its color scheme is mesmerizing and the chain details add edge.

On Saturday my mom was cleaning out her closet and stumbled across a Ralph Lauren blazer, which she promptly handed to me. Its nautical beading on the chest pocket and gold buttons are my favorite part. Who knew my mom had taste? The blazer is pretty large for my petite frame, but luckily my mom said she's willing to have it tailored if I'm actually going to wear it.

Also, if you are interested in the fashion industry, you should pick up The Teen Vogue Handbook. Anna Wintour (editor in chief of Vogue) said its "an indispensable resource for anybody who aspires to work as a fashion editor, designer, stylist, photographer, or anywhere, really, in the fashion industry." Check it out!

Blank Canvas

I’ve always been in love with fashion, from the starting sketch to the garments debut. So I decided today was the day to blog about my fashion fetish. I plan on posting pictures…eventually; and suggestions, as far as, magazines, books, websites, etc. are welcomed. But for now, this is just the beginning.

Ciao, Marisa
